1.유리하다/불리하다

  <A> is advantageous/disadvantageous to <someone>

  ex) The new policy is only advantageous to parents with two or more children.

  ex) The new policy is disadvantageous to parents with no children.

  ex) The new policy is only advantageous for parents with two or more children to buy a house.

  <A> is in a better position <to do ..> <than B>

  ex) Based on the new policy, parents with two or more children are in a much better position to buy a house.

 

2.무리하다

  get carried away(어떤 일에 심취하거나 사로잡혀서 혹은 너무 집중하다보니 나도 모르게 지나치게 하게 되다)

  overdo(알고 한 일이지만 결과적으로 지나치게 하게 된 것)

  push one self(무엇을 이루기 위해 자신을 한계까지 끌어올려서 무리하다)

  no need to / no need for(위험을 감수하지마)

  ex) I met up with my friends yesterday for drinks and we got a little carried away.

  ex) I know, I have been somewhat overdoing it lately, It's December. You know how it is.

       최근에 좀 무리하고 있다는 것은 아는데...연말이라...너도 알잖아...

  ex) If you keep pushing yourself like that, you're gonna get sick.

  ex) No need to rush

  ex) No need to risk getting in to an accient. You're only gonna save a couple of minutes no matter how fast

       you drive.

       야 괜히 무리하지마. 니가 아무리 빨리 운전해도 몇 분 단축 안돼.

 

3. 절차의 끝 / 그게 맞아, 정답이다 

  That's it : 절차나 과정의 끝을 말할 때

  ex) Is that is?? (다 끝난 건가요??)

  ex) Everything comes prepared so all you need to do is put everything in a pot and heat it for about 5 minutes

       and that's it.

  ex) All we need now is their approval and that will be it.(우리가 지금필요한건 그들의 승인이고 그러면 다 끝날거야)

  That's it : 그게 맞다 / 정답이다 / 그거다

  ex) What's wrong? you don't like the desing?

       It's not that. It's jutst that it;s a little more expensive than I thought.

  It's not like that.(상대방이 오해하고 있다고 말할 때)

  ex) you like her. don't you?

       It's not like that not at all.

  That's it(더 이상 못참을 때 앞에 쓰는 문장)

  ex) That's it. I can't do this anymore.

 

4.손해를 보다

  It cost me.

  ex) It cost me a lot of time/money/manpower(손해를 많이 봤어요)

  cuase + damag

  ex) It caused a lot of damage(많이 피해를 입었다)

  suffer / sustain + lost

  ex) We suffered a huge loss.(많은 피해를 입었다)

  ex) The cmpay sustained a huge loss/setback last quater.

 

5. ~안하면 손해야

  You don't know what you are missing out on.

  have someting to lose <손해 볼 것이 없다/적다/많다/있다>

  ex) What do i have to gain from that?

      (그게 나한테 무슨 이득이 있니?)

 

6.부족한다

  (1)(무엇의 양이) 부족하다

     not enough

     ex) I don't have enough experience yet.

  (2) 어떤 특징이 부족한

     not good/strong/small/big .. enough

     ex) Although she has been recovering very quickly, she's still not strong enough to start training.

  (3) 아직 할 일이 많을 때 / 갈 길이 멀었을 때

     have a lot to V

     ex) I still have a lot of work to do.

     ex) I still have a long way to go.

  (4)완벽하지 않다.

     not the perfect

     ex) I'm not the perfect husband in a lot of ways but I try my best

 

7.전혀 신경쓰지 않는다.

   I couldn't care less

   ex) I coudn't care lenss even if I wanted to(내가 신경쓰고 싶었어도 신경쓸수 없었어)

   ex) I coudn't care less what he says about me.(걔가 나에 대해서 뭐라고 하든 난 1도 신경 안써)

 

8. ~한 수준이다.

  It's nothing short of ~

  ex)It's nothing short of a disaster.(완전 재앙 수준이야)

  ex)It's nothing short of a miracle.(완전 기적 수준이야)

  ex)It was nothing short of perfection.(완벽 수준이었어)

   

9.침착하게 적절한 타이밍을 노리다.

  bide <one's> time.

  ex)He played it really smart. He didn't rush into it. He bided his time and just when the timing was right,

     he made his move.(그는 똑똑하게 서두르지 않고 적절한 타이밍을 기다렸고, 타이밍일 됐을 때 그가

                               움직였다)

 

10.며칠 고민해보다

  sleep on it

  ex)You don't have to decide anything now. Why don't you just sleep on it tonight and tell me

      what you think in the morning.

 

11.지금 기회가 생겼을 때 ~ 하다

  strike while the iron is hot

  ex)We can never anticipate opportunities like this. I say we strike while the iron is hot.

      (이 기회는 절대 예상할 수 없어. 나는 이 기회가 있을 때 하는게 맞는것 같아)

 

12.묵묵히 자기 할 일을 하다 

  keep one's head down

  ex)No. I think I've already caused enough trouble. I think I'm just going to keep my head down for a while.

 

13.몸을 사리다 

  lie low (*실제 회화에서는 lay low라고 하는 것을 많이 들을 수 있지만 lie low가 맞음. lay low 라고 해도 사실 괜찮음)     ex)It may seem safe right now but it's very unpredictable and I think we should lie low for a while.

 

14.상황이 진정되다 

   the dust settles - after the dust settles : 상황이 진정되고 나면 - until the dust settles : 상황이 진정될 때까지

   ex)There's just too much happening right now. After the dust settles, I'm sure things will be much clearer.

 

15.왜 이렇게 진지해?

  sense of humor

  ex) where is your sense of humor? (왜그래~ 왜케 긴장해?, 왜케 심각해?)

  ex) What happened? Did ou lose your sense of humor? (무슨일이야~ 웃을 여유조차 없어?)

 

16.유머 감각이 있다.

  have a good sense of humor.

  ex)He has a good sense of humor(걔 유머감각이 있어!)
